Day 25 - Corsica Beach

Today was Beach Day #2! We followed a similar rhythm as we did yesterday. A slow morning, drive to a beautiful beach, then back to the campsite for more relaxation and beach time.

We went to Plage de Cupabia, another beach on our list to find. We were not disappointed! The water was so turquoise and clear! The waves were not strong today so it made for a perfect day for snorkeling. We all swam pretty far out from shore and spent most of our time snorkeling between large rocks in calm water. The water was so clear, we could see the bottom. The boys, being the little fish that they are, explored for hours and found a variety of kinds of fish.

There wasn’t shade on this beach, so we were thankful that we bought a beach umbrella. The sand was hot so we spent most of our time in the water. But we did have a little time to relax on the beach and listen to the waves. Then we headed to eat at the restaurant down the shore before driving back to our campsite.

After we cleaned up and relaxed at the van for a little while, we headed to our campground’s reception area/restaurant for happy hour and ice cream. Soon we found ourselves talking with the owner Christiana and one of the campers, Evelyn. Evelyn was a retired English teacher in North France so she translated for us and Christiana. The four of us had a delightful conversation and before we knew it, three hours had gone by! We learned a lot about the culture of Corsica, that they’re very proud of being Corsican. And we learned that they were fascinated about how we could end up there, so far from the typical tourist destinations. By the end of our rich conversation, they asked us if we can please come back next year, and they called us “their Americans“, a title we’ll gladly accept.

While we talked, the boys swam and made a sand castle just in front of the campsite restaurant. They modeled their castle after the ancient towers used to warn of pirates that are on each of the peninsulas in southern Corsica. What a fun, full day! We’ll miss Corsica for sure!
