Day 14 - Slovenia

Our motor home parking lot was the best night sleep we’ve had in a while so we will definitely stay here another night. We end up saving around $50 a night and it’s just as crowded but we think probably quieter than Camping Bled would’ve been. We don’t have a large shower or bathroom facility to use, but the van will do just fine. We are getting more in need of laundry though, so hopefully when we leave here we’ll find a place with that. Fingers crossed!

After a slow morning, we walked to the lake and started our stroll on the path that goes all the way around it. There are no bad pictures around this storybook-like place so we meandered our way around, taking a ton of pictures as we went. As we strolled and took pictures, we also looked for a picnic spot and a place to swim. We ended up in a little park area with sunbathers, swimmers, hammock readers, and picnickers. It was a delightful little spot to eat and wade in the water. The water was cold but the boys didn’t care. It was clear and blue with lily pads close by and swans further out. Truly a beautiful place!

After our swim break we continued our way around the lake. Some swimming areas were crowded, full of people speaking all different languages. Rarely do we hear someone speak English conversationally. The language diversity here is lovely and a great experience for the boys! Everyone is friendly and speaks enough English to help us when needed. Most people working here speak multiple languages. It is really impressive, especially since it seems, to us anyway, that Slovenian is very different. Thank goodness for Google translate in a pinch.

On our walk we discovered that the European rowing masters had just finished on the other side of the lake so that was fun to see. The lake only allows boats with no motor so it is a popular place for rowing. Further around the lake we stopped to have dessert and a drink. The Kremšnita, or Slovenian Cream Cake, was delicious and refreshing! We ended our walk around the lake with a walk through the market and touristy shops. Then back to the van for a relaxing evening before we head on to Croatia tomorrow. I’m sure there is much more we could’ve done in this beautiful location. We didn’t make it out on a boat or to the island with the church. But that’s ok, our goal was just to have a relaxing time soaking it all in. And in that we succeeded.
